Bowen Yang Reveals His Dream Host(s) for ‘Saturday Night Live’

Cher And Kelly Clarkson does double duty Saturday Night Live? Count Bowen Yang (and us) in.

Published on The Kelly Clarkson ShowThe long-time star player has watched both experienced and new hosts take over Studio 8H over the years. But there is one powerhouse singer – or rather two – who is at the top of his wish list.

“Well, my white whale has always been Cher,” he said Evil said the actor.

Clarkson agreed: “She’s hilarious!” (If her interviews over the years and more recently Date at the chicken shop Appearances are just a guide, we agree. While Cher has been a reference, parody and impersonator throughout her storied and award-winning singing and acting career, she has never hosted the NBC sketch comedy show. In 1987, she was a musical guest alongside host Candice Bergen and had a cameo appearance in a 1992 episode with host Nicolas Cage and musical guest Bobby Brown.)

Yang continued, “She’s so funny! And since you two have a single coming out, I feel like it would blow my mind if you and Cher performed together,” referring to the duo’s “DJ Play a Christmas Song” – originally the lead track of the ” Believe” singer from her 2023 Christmas album, which was eventually remixed earlier this month, with Clarkson following her various covers of it.

“I love this song so much,” the “Since U Been Gone” singer said. “I was so much her road team, I think she felt obligated to ask me. I sang it everywhere! I’m such a big fan of that song but we released the dance remix version but she let me sing on it and it was a dream come true. So I understand your Cher scenario.”

When Yang said that his dream would only come true if Clarkson joined Cher, she replied, “When Cher comes, I just want to be the person who happens to walk in the back every now and then.” Fire Island Actor vehemently refused: “No, Kelly!”

The Grammy winner disagreed, saying that Cher’s Oscar-winning acting status made her a suitable candidate and was shocked that she had never hosted before.

“She never did. Look, she can do any role West Side StoryYou know? Do you remember that?” Yang replied, referencing an oft-forgotten piece of Cher history in which the multi-hyphenate singer sings and dances to a 12-minute medley of the musical’s titles, featuring both male and female characters as part of their 1978 self-titled musical ABC special.
