Two planes clipped their wings at a gate at Boston Logan International Airport on Monday, forcing the cancellation of a Frontier flight to Dallas during one of the busiest travel times of the year, according to a spokesman for the Massachusetts Port Authority.

No one was injured when the aircraft’s wingtips touched at Terminal E, but the aircraft needed to be checked for damage, the spokesman said.

Two planes brushed their wings at Logan International Airport in Boston on Monday.

Later in the day, another clipped wing incident was reported in Logan on Monday. A Cape Air spokeswoman said a JetBlue plane hit a Cape Air flight from Nantucket. None of the three passengers or two crew members on board were injured; The aircraft was taken out of service for inspection.

NBC10 Boston reached out for more information about the incident.

In the earlier incident, a Frontier spokesperson told NBC10 Boston that the American Airlines aircraft made contact with their flight 3601 to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport while the Frontier aircraft was parked and waiting to take off. There were 200 people on board the A321, which was preparing to take off.

American Airlines confirmed that Flight 109 from London Heathrow Airport was entering its gate when it came into contact with the parked aircraft.

“There were no reported injuries and customers exited the aircraft shortly afterwards. The aircraft was taken out of service for inspection by our maintenance team. We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience,” the American Airlines spokesperson wrote.

“They said the plane was refueling and then suddenly we felt it. I didn’t know what it was. said April O’Brien, who was a passenger on the Frontier flight.

Both planes had to be ejected to inspect for damage, Massport said. The Frontier flight was canceled, frustrating some passengers as they had to wait a day or two for a new flight during the busy travel season. Frontier said it is offering rebooking options or full refunds, as well as hotel and dining vouchers and a $100 credit toward a future flight.

But O’Brien said the incident meant wasting valuable time she wanted to spend with her family.

“It’s terrible because my sister-in-law has stage four cancer, so I’m trying to see her,” she said.

Douglas Garcia, who was also on the Frontier flight, said it was a scramble to find a new ticket.

“Now I have to wait until Wednesday. I have no place to stay or no idea what’s going on,” Garcia told NBC10 Boston.

Monday’s incident came amid what authorities expect to be a record day of travel ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, and while no one was injured, it puts air travel safety concerns back in focus.

After several near misses last year, including incidents at Logan Airport, the FAA has focused on reducing runway interference at the nation’s airports.

In February 2023, a close call occurred at Logan Airport when the pilot of a charter plane took off without permission and got into the way of a JetBlue plane that was preparing to land on an intersecting runway. The pilots of the JetBlue flight managed to avoid the other plane and land safely. Later in June, a United Airlines plane crashed into a parked plane at low speed.

And in August 2023, an American Airlines flight was told to quickly abort takeoff after an air traffic controller noticed another plane, a Spirit Airlines flight, approaching too close. One passenger recalled feeling a “strong jolt” and hearing the tires squeal when he applied the emergency brake.

No serious injuries were reported in any of the incidents.

In August 2023, the FAA announced that Logan Airport would receive $44.9 million in federal funding to improve its runways.
