While it will be cool but clear in central Pennsylvania, parts of western Pennsylvania will experience a full-blown lake-effect snowstorm.

More than four feet of snow could accumulate in Erie by the end of the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

A lake effect snow advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday for Erie and Crawford counties, as well as parts of New York and Ohio.

The National Weather Service (NWS) advises that snowfall could fall at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour and could accumulate to nearly 30 inches by Saturday morning.

The Black Friday snowstorm that hit Erie resulted in the closure of major highways, public transportation and libraries and caused delays to many important events planned for the post-holiday shopping weekend.

Anyone planning a trip to the region is asked to postpone their trip as snow generated by lakes may result in rapidly changing and dangerous road conditions.

For those who must travel, the NWS recommends bringing a winter storm kit with a tire change, jumper cables, a flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing to this part of Pennsylvania.

Another 18 inches of snow could fall in the northwest part of the state by Monday morning.

Light snowfall is expected in southwestern Pennsylvania, including the Pittsburgh area, through Sunday, according to the NWS, meaning no more than half an inch of snow will fall each day. More snow or a mix of snow and rain is forecast there throughout the coming week.

Travel conditions are expected to be better from the mountains in the east to Philadelphia.

No snow is expected across much of the region, but temperatures will remain below 40°C throughout the day and below freezing overnight, making for the coldest stretch of weather so far this season.
