If you are wondering whether there will be a third season of Arcane after the current Star season ends, then the answer is no. After three years of waiting since the release of the first season of Arcane to the enthusiastic applause of fans and critics, the series has now come to an end and its second and final season is released in three episodic series.The success of Arcane’s first season confirmed that such adaptations could work. However, the series shocked fans again when Netflix announced in June 2024 that the second season would be its last.

The popular and famous animated series is based on Riot Games’ League of Legends and is about two sisters, played by Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Purnell, who found themselves on opposing sides of a brutal war.

Is Arcane Season 3 coming to Netflix?

The final episodes of Arcane season 2 have been released on Netflix. But is that the end of the show?League of Legends creator Marc Merill cleared up the confusion over a canceled Arcane Season 3 (and beyond) in a recent post on Reddit. He wrote: “The confusion is because there was a budget discussion internally about ‘approving 5 seasons’ – which simply means we have set aside a lot of money for a lot of development and is completely irrelevant to Arcane creativity. Creativity and making something great should always be a priority for Riot and our teams.”

There have been conflicting reports as to why Arcane will end with season two. While the creative team behind the show repeatedly emphasized that the decision was creative and completed the story they wanted to tell in a timely manner, a report from Variety suggested that it was actually a matter of budget.

This reveal coincided with the release of the first trailer for season two, months before the new episodes were scheduled to air.

Is Netflix canceling the third season of Arcane early?

It’s not just a matter of Netflix canceling a show early. It turns out that the plan from the start was always to end Arcane after two seasons.

In an interview with Variety, co-creator Christian Linke explained that “Arcane” was intended to be “the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio Fortiche.”

Speaking to the BBC, co-showrunner Christian Linke explained: “We’ve all seen TV shows where we didn’t really know when to stop. We don’t want to be one of them.

Netflix did not cancel the series and it was the decision of the creators of the series to end it after the second season.

Critics and audiences loved Arcane, especially the animation, which was beautifully designed by Paris-based studio Fortiche, which made the news even more surprising.
