The community is invited to celebrate First Friday and the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Macon Plaza.

The city’s parks department decorated downtown with Christmas lights, and many merchants decorated their stores and windows to reflect the season. Several downtown stores offer First Friday specials. The Artists’ Gallery, Fremont Center for the Arts and Pueblo Community College all host artist receptions.

Families are welcome to meet in the library from 5:00 p.m. and take photos with Santa and his wife
5:30 p.m., 516 Macon Ave. Enjoy a craft activity for children and families at the Carnegie Library while listening to the Dulcimers’ Christmas music.

The Cañon City High School Madrigal Singers will perform various Christmas classics in Macon Plaza, and Mayor Preston Troutman will turn on the Christmas tree lights at 7 p.m. There will be food available for purchase from various food trucks. The famous snowball fight area is set up with fake plush snowballs and Cañon City police officers ready to dodge them.

The 35th Annual Alliance Christmas Lights Parade will be held at 6:00 p.m. from 5th to 10th streets along Main Street. This year’s theme is “Christmas in Toyland.” Arrive early to enjoy the Downtown Business Alliance Window Decorating Contest on Main Street, vendor specials and food trucks. The Grinch and the Elf will also be walking around town doing photo ops on First Friday and for the parade; They compete to see who can get the most donations for the Fremont Community Foundation’s “Operation Grinch.”
