SNOW WARNING WITH LAKE EFFECT for Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties from 10 a.m. Friday through Saturday. A winter weather advisory is in effect for Cuyahoga County tonight through 10 a.m. Saturday. Heavy snow squalls will occur in parts of the warning area tonight. Heavy snowfall of 2.5 to 5 cm per hour is expected where the snow band remains. Driving along the I-90 corridor could be very treacherous starting Friday morning. Drivers should be prepared for dangerous road conditions during squalls.

Looks like a textbook scenario for days of HEAVY Lake Effect snow. That means snowfall rates of 1 to 5 inches per hour will reduce visibility to zero and drop large amounts of snow in a short period of time. Snow totals could reach over 12 inches any day, with snow squalls continuing to occur.

The reason for this is that much colder air is moving into northern Ohio. Very few snow showers are possible across the area. The primary focus will be lake effect snow squalls east of Cleveland in the snowbelt. West-east movement across the lake will promote a heavy band of snow. This group will be located largely in Lake, north Geauga and north Ashtabula counties today. Snow depths of 6 to 10 inches can be expected in the heavier snow band, with some snow depths exceeding 12 inches throughout the warning area where squalls remain.
