USC is looking for its third straight win

The Trojans improved to 5-1 this season and will look to extend their winning streak here to three games. Both teams got off to a strong start with mostly new core talent from last season and, in the Trojans’ case, a coaching change. It will be interesting to see how USC handles a team like Saint Mary’s that is strong on defense this season. The Trojans have shot the ball well inside and are 32nd with a 59.8% shooting percentage from the interior, but the Gaels are 40th in two-point defense as they beat opposing teams limited to 43% of shots from two-point range. Saint Mary’s problems are more focused on the perimeter, as they rank 243rd in three-point defense (34.2%), but USC is not a great perimeter shooting squad. The Gaels’ edge on the defensive end of the field makes the difference here as they find a way to assert themselves.
