Jennifer Hudson says her boyfriend Common gets “a little bossy” when they play music

Jennifer Hudson opens up about her musical collaboration with her boyfriend Common.

The 43-year-old singer and actress performed Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday, November 27th, to promote their new holiday album, The gift of love, It includes the song “Almost Christmas,” which she and Common, 52, worked on together.

“I mean, we’re both very musical,” Hudson told host Seth Meyers of the track. “Two Chicagoans, and I asked myself, ‘Where’s the poetry and storytelling in the Christmas albums?’ And who could do that better than him? For example, write spoken word poetry during the holidays? And that’s where the song came from.”

Still, Hudson admitted that the couple’s musical partnership can occasionally have hurdles, as she detailed: “He’s a little bit bossy when it comes to being Common.”

“Common and Rashid are two different people musically, but he is a musical genius, so it is an honor to be able to work with him, for him, with him and on his and my album,” he said dream girl Star added.

In addition to their recent holiday song, Hudson and Common also collaborated on the song “A GOD (There Is)” from Common’s album The Auditorium Vol. 1., which was released in July.

The rapper previously told PEOPLE that he “loved” working with Hudson on the track.

“When I played it for musician friends, they asked, ‘Who’s singing?’ I think, ‘That’s Jennifer!’ “It doesn’t sound like anything you’ve heard from her before,” he said. “I love that we were able to use her gifts in a new space, man.”

Hudson and Common apparently confirmed their relationship in January when Common appeared on Hudson’s talk show. The Jennifer Hudson Show.

The two first sparked dating rumors in 2022, following the announcement of their film Breathe.

“I’m in a relationship… with one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever met in my life,” Common said on the talk show earlier this year. “She’s smart, she loves God, there’s something really down to earth about her. She, she’s talented.”

“This relationship is a happy place for me,” the rapper added. “Seeing her happy makes me really happy. That’s why I’m very grateful. I thank God every day and just let God guide this relationship.”
