“Wednesday” superfans have something special to be thankful for this morning – even if Wednesday herself isn’t too pleased.

Netflix is bringing Wednesday Addams (and Thing and Pugsly) to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which is actually broadcast live on Peacock and not Netflix. (NBC pays the retailer tens of millions of dollars annually for the rights to broadcast and broadcast the annual March on Herald Square – and ultimately at Christmas – as well as the Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks display.)

The new “Wednesday” float will be “accompanied by an army of similar Wednesdays” and “a special performance” of “Paint It Black” by indie-pop star Bishop Briggs (real name Sarah McLaughlin, but that’s a bit confusing because we have already done) I have a Sarah McLachlan – McLaughlin’s stage name is a version of her parents’ hometown, Bishopbriggs, Scotland). We’re guessing the Rolling Stones, who wrote and recorded “Paint It Black” in 1966, were unavailable… for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega in the hit Netflix series, famously hates Thanksgiving – especially since she started working at the fictional tourist attraction Pilgrim World.

“Netflix took advantage of Wednesday’s apathy and boldness to create a float and moment within the historic parade to excite fans as they wait for Season 2,” the press release said.

Anyway, Float Wednesday serves her brother’s head – Float Pugsley – on a silver platter. As always, Thing is by her side. (Well, really, on her shoulder.)

Previous Netflix participation in the Macy’s parade was in support of “The Christmas Chronicles” (2018 and 2020), “Green Eggs and Ham” (2019), “Ada Twist, Scientist” (2021-2022), “Slumberland” (2022), and the “Leo” balloon from last year.

The 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade begins at 8:30 a.m. ET; Santa Claus comes to town just in time for lunch. It’s expected to literally rain on Wednesday as it rains on Macy’s parade festivities.

“Wednesday” is described by Netflix as a “detective, supernatural-infused crime thriller that chronicles Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic abilities to thwart a monstrous crime spree that is ravaging the local community has terrorized the city, and…” Solve the murder mystery that ensnared her parents 25 years ago – while also sorting out her new and very tangled relationships in Nevermore.”

The first season of Tim Burton’s “Wednesday” is the most-watched English-language television series in Netflix history. In its first 91 days of release, the series received more than 252 million views, which is more than twice as many as any other English-language show not named Stranger Things 4. Of course, Korean-language series Squid Game remains Netflix’s biggest series of all time, with the first season racking up just over 265 million views.

Season 2 of “Squid Game” premieres on December 26, 2024; “Wednesday” Season 2, now starring Lady Gaga, premieres sometime in 2025. Netflix users are eager to binge both, but for now: Happy Thanksgiving!
