Oklahoma’s perfect record is no longer there.

The No. 8-ranked Sooners suffered their first loss of the season Wednesday in the championship game of the Ball Dawgs Classic at Lee’s Family Forum in Henderson, falling 109-99 to No. 13 Duke – their first meeting in a decade. NV.

Peyton Verhulst led the Sooners with 29 points, including a 3-pointer at the end of regulation that sent the game into overtime, and recorded a triple-double with 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

But even Verhulst’s excellence wasn’t enough to overcome Riegan Richardson’s career-high 35 points, and Verhulst’s own buzzer-beating drive was nullified by a 65-footer from Duke’s Ashlon Jackson to beat the buzzer in the third quarter.

OU fell to 6-1 while Duke improved to 7-1.

The Sooners have barely been challenged in their 6-0 start, averaging a margin of victory of more than 37 points per game. That landed OU at No. 8 in the AP Top 25 — the program’s best ranking since 2009 — but it didn’t do much to prepare them for Duke’s speed, size and athleticism — and signature luck.

OU erased a 15-point lead and caught Duke in a back-and-forth fourth quarter that only ended when Verhulst’s buzzer-beater sent it into overtime.

Beers’ free throw early in OT gave the Sooners their first lead since the first quarter, 95-94, but she was cautioned for an offensive foul on OU’s next possession.
