What is open and closed on Thanksgiving Day?

It wasn’t too long ago when many major retailers began offering Black Friday deals on Thanksgiving. After the pandemic, deal seekers usually have to wait until Friday.

Most major retailers closed on Thursday, and some grocery and pharmacy chains also remain closed.

And if you forget an ingredient for the big meal, you may or may not be out of luck depending on where you live.

Here’s a look at what’s open and what’s not this Thanksgiving. Please note that opening times may vary and many locations have adjusted opening hours. Franchise-owned chains, such as Subway and Burger King, also depend on the franchisee.

What is open:

• Cabela’s
• CVS
• Denny’s
• Dunkin’
• IHOP
• Kroger
• McDonald’s
• Starbucks
• Walgreens (note that only about 500 24-hour locations are open; the rest remain closed)
• Waffle House

Key government agencies such as the National Weather Service, the Transportation Security Administration and others will also do so

If you’re looking for sit-down dining options, plenty of chains offer Thanksgiving menus. These include Cracker Barrel and Ruth’s Chris Steak House. Many 24-hour restaurants such as Waffle House and IHOP also remain open.
