“I wanted to harm myself” – Pep Guardiola appears in front of the press with scars on his head

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is undoubtedly struggling to come to terms with his side’s winning streak, but he was a sobering side on Tuesday night. The former Barcelona player appeared before the press with scars on his head and a cut on his nose after his team blew a three-goal lead in the closing stages of their Champions League game against Feyenoord.

City endured the worst run of Guardiola’s career before welcoming the Dutch side to the Etihad, conceding five defeats in a row. However, the way City stopped that run may have done little to lower Guardiola’s blood pressure.

After the game, as quoted by Cadena SER, the Catalan coach explained to the press by saying: “With my finger I want to harm myself,” with a smile.

Considering how intensely Guardiola lives football and how quickly the pressure has increased at City, it is a worrying sight. Hopefully it was a temporary episode, but most workplaces would have a safety protocol in place at this point. How exactly he caused this damage to himself remains unclear. It doesn’t get any easier with a trip to Anfield on Sunday to face Premier League leaders Liverpool.
