Bayern Munich beat 10-man Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the Champions League thanks to Kim Min-Jae’s winning goal on Tuesday, improving their chances of automatic qualification and leaving the visitors in trouble after a third defeat in the competition .

After a rocky start with one win and two defeats, it was Bayern’s second win in a row in the competition. With nine points from five games they catapulted to 11th place, one point behind the top eight places which mean automatic qualification for the round of 16.

Luis Enrique’s PSG sit in 26th place with four games remaining, outside the playoff places as three games remain in the first phase.

Bundesliga leaders Bayern, who play Borussia Dortmund ahead of their German Cup round of 16 clash against defending champions Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, had the better start against PSG and had two early chances through Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane.

The visitors responded with a double chance, but neither Ousmane Dembele, who was sent off just before the hour, nor Joao Neves could beat goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Having secured their only win so far in their opening game against Girona, PSG were desperate for points, but Bayern opened the scoring when South Korean Kim headed home from close range after goalkeeper Matvei Safonov scored in the 38th minute faked a corner.

Before the French defense could recover, Bayern almost scored their second goal five minutes before half-time when Kingsley Coman shot over the crossbar after a solo run.

Things got even worse for Luis Enrique’s PSG side when Dembele was sent off for a tackle that resulted in a second yellow card in the 57th minute, leaving an already struggling team down to 10.

Bayern tried to make the most of their majority and put pressure on the guests. In the 66th minute, Coman came close again and narrowly missed the target after a quick pass.

Safonov made amends for his earlier mistake by directing Musiala’s shot onto the post, but despite some late pressure, PSG could not prevent Bayern from recording their seventh straight win in all competitions and seventh consecutive clean sheet.
