Bill Self says two Kansas basketball transfers are “not comfortable yet” with the Jayhawks

The No. 1-ranked Kansas basketball team opened the season on a high note, winning each of its first five games of the season. Bill Self’s Jayhawks will look to continue that success this Tuesday against Duke, a game that could be the toughest on the non-conference schedule. However, there is certainly room for improvement with Lawrence.

Two players who haven’t found their footing yet are transfer guards Rylan Griffen and AJ Storr. Although they both contributed to KU’s success, their impact was minimal compared to what they offered at their previous schools. Coach Self made it clear during his postgame press conference after Kansas defeated UNC-Wilmington earlier this week.

For those who have watched the Jayhawks this season, these comments shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Storr and Griffen rank fifth and sixth on the roster in minutes played, but have not been the best versions of themselves through the first five contests of the season.

Storr was perhaps the most touted transfer addition of the offseason. After spending a year at Wisconsin, the 6-foot-2 winger moved to the Jayhawks and was expected to immediately take a spot in the starting lineup. However, he came off the bench in all five games and his points per game average fell from 16.8 to 9.4.

While Griffen has secured a spot in the starting lineup, he is trying to find his rhythm. The former Alabama guard was vulnerable on defense and limits his game to being a spot-up shooter on offense. Griffen has not yet shown his potential as a shot creator and often appears shy.

KU’s depth in the backcourt is great, so the Jayhawks haven’t suffered from a lack of production. However, Kansas will be a much better team if Griffen and Storr are able to put things together.
