If you have outdoor plans during Thanksgiving week, keep an eye on the weather forecast. Rapidly changing conditions may result in areas of fog, severe thunderstorms and large temperature swings across southeast Georgia and the lowlands. Let’s start with what you might expect around the corner on Wednesday. Patchy fog is possible early in the day. Visibility may drop to 0.5 miles or less in places. Any fog should clear quickly Wednesday morning. Wednesday afternoon looks mild and dry, with high temperatures in the low to mid 70s. Clouds will build in on Thursday and there is a low chance of showers in the morning. Thanksgiving Day looks warm and humid, with highs in the mid to upper 70s! If you have a house full of guests, there’s a good chance you’ll need to turn on the air conditioning. The chance of rain increases Thursday afternoon into early Thursday evening. A line of isolated to widespread showers and thunderstorms will move across the area. If you plan to host your Thanksgiving feast outdoors, make sure you have a plan “B” that you can quickly switch to. Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible. As of this update, there is a low or marginal risk of severe storms on Thanksgiving. The threat of strong storms covers most of the Southeast on Thursday. The main impacts appear to be heavy rain and strong gusts of wind. As a cold front sweeps across the area Thursday night into Friday, significantly cooler temperatures will return. Highs will only reach the low 60s in Savannah on Friday. Even cooler weather is expected for the coming weekend. With an increased blast of colder air arriving in early December, the first fall frost may be on the horizon. Low temperatures around freezing are possible in Savannah through next Monday and Tuesday. Both Monday and Tuesday are WJCL Impact Days.
