After a 17-year break from television, Angélica Rivera, known as “La Gaviota,” has stunned fans by announcing her return to the entertainment world. The news was announced on the Mexican television show “Hoy,” where not only was her comeback confirmed, but the first teaser of her new project was also revealed.

The upcoming series, titled “Con esa misma mirada,” is said to be inspired by the successful Colombian novel “Señora Isabel,” which has been adapted several times in Mexico, starting with the iconic “Mirada de Mujer,” starring Angélica Aragón.

The 1993 and 1997 productions told the story of a woman who was left by her husband for a woman 20 years her junior. As she copes with her pain and her new marital status, she also rediscovers love with a younger man.

The teaser, shared on the morning show “Hoy,” lasts less than 20 seconds and offers a first look at the former Mexican first lady in her new role. In this adaptation, Angélica plays a woman who struggles with her husband’s indifference and abandonment, which leads her to start a new chapter in her life.

“After a painful betrayal and separation after 25 years of marriage, a woman must reevaluate her life, rediscover her dreams, love and sensuality with a younger man,” explained Andrea Escalona while discussing the premise of the show.

Although a release date for the Vix streaming platform has not yet been announced, some of the cast members have been revealed. In her eagerly awaited return, Angélica will be accompanied by Iván Sánchez, Ivanna Castro, Nicolás Haza and her daughter Sofía Castro.

Angélica’s last appearance in a telenovela was in 2007, when she portrayed Teresa Hernández García, “Gaviota”, in the hit series “Destilando Amor”. She then retired from television and in 2010 married Enrique Peña Nieto, who was Mexico’s president from 2012 to 2018.

The 55-year-old actress began her career in 1988 with the youth telenovela “Dulce Desafío” and then starred in productions such as “Simplemente María”, “Mujer, casos de la vida real”, “La Dueña” and “Mariana de la noche”, where she played her first antagonistic role.

The return of Angélica Rivera marks the comeback of one of the most popular characters on Mexican television. With this announcement, the anticipation for “Con esa misma mirada” is steadily growing and more details about the series are expected in the coming days.
