Saim Ayub scored a swashbuckling century as the Pakistan men’s ODI team made short work of a modest target, defeating Zimbabwe by 10 wickets and ending the three-match one-day international series at the Queens Sports Club on Tuesday.

Pakistan needed 18.2 overs to score 148-0 and secure victory after Zimbabwe, who won the toss and elected to bat, were bowled out for 145 in 32.3 overs.

Spinner Abrar Ahmed took 4-33 and Salman Ali Agha took 3-26 before Saim took over the home bowling to give Pakistan a comfortable win.

Six Zimbabwean batsmen reached double figures, with Dion Myers top-scoring with 33, but none of them were able to convert their starts into significant points.

The 22-year-old scored his maiden ODI ton in 53 balls as he hammered the ball to all corners and scored 113 not out.

His opening partner Abdullah Shafique was content to play a supporting role and scored 32 points.

The confident batting performance contrasted with Pakistan’s modest performance in the opening game on Sunday, when Zimbabwe won by 80 runs using the DLS method after rain ended the game early.

The third and final ODI will also take place in Bulawayo on Thursday before the two countries begin a three-match Twenty20 series.
