Officials are investigating after multiple planes crashed within hours of each other at Logan International Airport in Boston on Monday.

An empty JetBlue plane that was being towed hit a Cape Air plane around 6:30 p.m. Monday. According to FlightAware, Cape Air Flight 5101 landed at Nantucket Memorial Airport at 5:52 p.m.

“The Jetblue aircraft came into contact with Cape Air Flight 5101 from Nantucket at Boston Logan International Airport,” Cape Air marketing director Rebecca Chace confirmed in an email to the Globe.

There were three passengers and two crew members on board, Chace said.

No injuries were reported. The plane has been taken out of service, she said.

A passenger on another JetBlue flight from Washington, D.C., told the Globe that his flight landed at 6:45 p.m. and suddenly stopped while taxiing, the passenger said.

“As the plane taxied to the gate, it was stopped for more than 10 minutes,” the passenger said in an email. “Numerous emergency vehicles were visible from the port windows.”

A Jet Blue plane was parked directly behind a Cape Air plane, he said.

Early Monday, an arriving American Airlines flight made contact with the wingtip of a Frontier Airlines plane waiting at its gate, spokespeople for both airlines confirmed to the Globe.

No injuries were reported on either plane and passengers were able to disembark normally, officials said.

“The aircraft was taken out of service for inspection by our maintenance team,” an American Airlines spokesman said. “We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The American plane, a transatlantic flight from London’s Heathrow Airport, was pulling into its gate at Terminal E when it made contact with the Frontier plane parked nearby.

Footage obtained by WCVB-TV appears to show the Frontier aircraft’s winglet – the upward curved part of the wing tip – under the wing of the larger American aircraft, a Boeing 777.

There were 200 passengers aboard the Frontier flight, an Airbus A321 bound for Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, a Frontier spokesman said. The flight, originally scheduled for 11:35 a.m., was ultimately canceled, according to flight tracking service Flightview.

Officials said both planes would remain grounded for now while personnel assessed the damage.

The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that it was investigating the incident.

It’s not the first time this year that two planes have made contact on the Logan tarmac. A wing tear in February led to the cancellation of two JetBlue Airways flights. The FAA has investigated at least five similar incidents nationwide since March, according to the agency’s incident log.
