Over the last week, trade rumors have swirled surrounding Chicago Cubs star outfielder and first baseman Cody Bellinger.

After reports emerged that the Cubs would like to trade Bellinger, a number of teams came up with potential targets.

Chicago should have a very healthy market for him if they actually put him on the trade floor.

Bellinger is a former National League MVP and has shown that his bat is still more than capable of making an impact. Even after a down year with the Cubs in 2024, he’s still a valuable potential trade partner.

Zach Pressnell from Newsweek has suggested a very interesting target for the star.

In a recent article, he named the Los Angeles Dodgers as one of Bellinger’s top destinations, where he began his career and had his MVP season there.

“The Dodgers have been involved in the Soto rumors for a while, but ultimately that will not be the likely outcome. There’s still a chance, but it’s not very high. Instead, they could move on to trading for Bellinger, the same player who began his career in Los Angeles and won an NL MVP trophy there. Los Angeles will be very aggressive and Bellinger might prefer to end up with his former team, the best team in the league.

A return to the Dodgers would be a very interesting scenario for Bellinger.

He had a lot of success with the franchise and would go to the defending champions with a chance to help Los Angeles to its second straight title.

Last season with Chicago, Bellinger played 130 regular games. He finished with 18 home runs and 78 RBI while slashing .266/.325/.426.

These numbers show the impact he can make even in what was considered a bad year for him.

Should he eventually return to the Dodgers, he would be surrounded by elite talent in the lineup. He would be more of a supporting role player than the cornerstone of the lineup like he was with the Cubs.

At this point this is just an idea.

There are no reports that a Bellinger trade has been discussed between Los Angeles and Chicago.

That being said, it’s something to keep an eye on if the Cubs start shopping him.
