A 67-year-old man was killed in a machete attack in north Houston, and police are now searching for the suspect responsible.

A manhunt is underway for 52-year-old Alvaro Lovos, who is accused of murder in connection with the killing of Charlie Wilson last week.

On November 19, Houston Police Department officers discovered Wilson lying on the sidewalk along Hirsch Road near Bennington Street. He suffered multiple blunt and sharp force injuries.

Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene.

BACKGROUND: Seizure or calamity? The death of a man in north Houston is under investigation

According to court documents, Wilson’s injuries were the result of being struck by a machete that was recovered at the scene. Surveillance footage from a nearby supermarket showed a man identified by witnesses as Lovos chasing and hitting Wilson about 25 times. Of those attacks, 15 occurred after Wilson stopped moving.

Witnesses, including the clerk, identified Lovos as a regular customer who lived in an apartment attached to the store.

The machete, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered with visible bloodstains.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences classified Wilson’s death as a homicide caused by multiple sharp-force injuries, including lacerations to the head and neck.

Authorities said Lovos told investigators he heard screams and saw two men walking away from Wilson’s body. However, authorities say evidence and witness statements contradict his statement.

Investigators are now focusing on locating Lovos, who has not been seen since the attack.

Anyone with information regarding Lovos’ whereabouts is asked to contact the HPD Homicide Unit at 713-308-3600 or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
